At COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Lead for Earth Foundation played a pivotal role, hosting events on climate refugees and engaging in crucial policy discussions. The conference’s outcomes, including the establishment of a Loss and Damage Fund and a focus on climate finance, have shaped our strategies for future climate action and advocacy.
The Lead for Earth Foundation team attended the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, actively engaging in activities central to the foundation’s mission:
1. Side Event Hosting: We hosted a side event focusing on the importance of climate refugees, particularly in the context of Asia and the Pacific.
2. Participation in Negotiations: Our team was involved in critical negotiations under CSO and YOUNGO, contributing to policy and finance discussions, including climate adaptation.
Key Conference Outcomes:
3. Loss and Damage Fund: A historic agreement was established to create a fund for countries severely affected by climate disasters.
4. 1.5°C Commitment: The conference underscored the urgent need to keep global warming within this limit.
5. Accountability: There was a renewed emphasis on holding sectors and institutions accountable for their climate commitments.
